So me and about 5 of my friends have gotten into MtG recently. I used to play 2007/08 or so but the local hobby shop went out of business so I lost my card supplier and tourny location. We got ourselves two 285 card core sets and a couple pre-built decks and booster packs and have taken over about 1/3 or so of our school's anime club (until we can start a pure Magic club). From my own collection of ~500 cards I built Island/Plains, Island/Forest, and Mountain/Swamp decks (Unfortunately 95% of my cards are 'illegal' since they are pre-2013 set so I'm going to have to mooch off of my friends until I buy my own deck(which will fucking rape everything with a planeswalker and shit))Starting in 2 or so weeks we are going to be going down to Newton NJ (which is like 30-45 minutes away) for Friday Night Magic Tourneys :D. So anyways, do any of you play, have previously played, or think about playing? The game is a ton of fun and Two-headed giant games(2v2) can get really intense.

TL;DR Do you even magic?

I just recently started playing it again, I used to play it back in like 2006, but now I play a bit more. Only casual though, im not very good :P
There's this free thing I found called http://cockatrice.de/ . It lets you build/play against people with decks you can make for free. Its pretty good if like me you don't have many people to play with.

EDIT: I have a green/white token deck, with Sublime Archangel and Captian of odric, so if i have 10 tokens my Captain attacks for 20+

Yeah I have an island/plains focused around counters and shit. I've gotten one of them up to 18/18 with trample.

One of my friends has a deck built to send the enemies library to the graveyard and he just bought the blue planeswalker.

Someone I play with discards his OWN LIBRARY so he can get Splinterfright and Boneyard wurm up(Their power and toughness are equal to the number of creature cards in his graveyard, and plinterfright makes him send the top 2 cards from his library to the graveyard every turn and has trample. Kind of impossible to play against it unless you win in the first like 5 turns.

I just bought a Booster Box for Gatecrash on Friday, got my promo Nightveil Specter and Ima be flowin in the boosters. I didn't get to go to the prerelease though because I spent all my money on the box but w/e.

But from what I heard, dimir and gruul did amazing, where my one friend went to pretty much everyone who went boros ended up doing really bad, more for constructed than sealed.

Wow that's different, at our pre release Dimir and Boros kicked ass, One guy who got Boros got 2 Gideons in his first 2 packs.

What a lucky fuck, but I don't know what exactly happened to make them do bad, my guess is that they didnt get much boros stuff so their deck was shitty, no clue. But I plan on building a GRW midrange that focuses on combat tricks and what-not FUCKIN BOROS CHARM BITCHES

Yep, I got Consuming abberation Promo and Nightveil specter, along with a $20 simic mythic which I traded for a Boros mythic, which I traded for 40 Dimir specific cards. And even with that someone else got way luckier than me. There was a guy who got a boros box and got 2 Gideon planeswalkers i the 5 starting packs! We were all extremly jelly at that point.

Do you mean Aurelia? If so nice, I think she is the best of the guild legendaries followed by obzedat then the dimir dude. And how my friends shop did it was they took out one of the boosters since it had one pack which was already guild based, which is dumb since one pack cant be the base of an entire deck -_-

Yeah Aurelia was the Boros mythic, Master Biomancer was the Simic mythic, and that lucky guy got Two Gideon Champion of justice. I really want Lazav the Dimir mythic, he is amazing you just copy stronger stuff when it dies over and over again.

Yeah I know, and it counts for creatures you milled so if you mill, say, a borborgymos then you get a 7/6 trample hexproof that you didnt have to pay 8 mana for

Man, wish i still had the money to buy boosters and box sets :( last set i left off with was one of the 2012 sets. i cant think of the name of it. i think it was phyrexia or the one after it. Not entirly sure. Miss playing Magic, the only person i had to play with was my ex. and now we dont even speak unless shes wanting me to find her drugs. Which let me be frank. I dont help her at all with it, usually she texts me and i just ignore it. But i dont know anyone that plays near me anymore, back in high school and middle school. We werent allowed to play because it distracted too many people from the teachers and such. Only places i know i could go to keep playin is little shops like "Marvel" or "GameHaven" where they hold events for it every thursday night at 7pm. I play on it every once in a while but I only have like 2 or 3 decks on that I actually have. I mostly use decks that I think of, and some of them are interesting, like my Q deck and my relentless rats.

WOTC is so good at releasing perfectly balanced cards in these new sets amiright? I mean, what's wrong with being able to take up to 5 extra turns? Or have a 4/4 lifelink that can become a 10/10 flying lifelink? Or a 6/6 vigilance reach for 6 that if you try and do fucking anything you take 6 damage, oh and bloodrush doesn't proc that, so just throw +9/+9 trample on it.

I started playing last night- I've got some starter pack that's revolving around forest and plains; I fucking love it.

Was the packinging blue or yellow/orange?
If it is blue it is from Return to Ravnica, yellow is Dragon's Maze. I don't know about the Dragon's Maze one but the RtR is pretty good and was the base of the deck I had for months.

Last night I had a couple of friends over and we did the exact same thing lol.

Get cocatrice from here. You'll need to download the cards.xml as well.

Cocatrice lets you play mtg versus other people online for free, it's pretty awesome.
